Field notebook with cordage, anchor sketches, and wear marks
The method starts with observation because many line failures begin as ordinary surfaces rubbing in ordinary places.

Field Method

Read, mark, tension, re-read, and leave a removal plan.

The Raope method is intentionally modest. It asks the reader to name the job, identify the loaded side, mark expected movement, choose the simplest inspectable tie, and check it again after the first real pull. That sequence prevents many small setups from becoming mysterious.

The final step is removal. A setup that cannot be released without cutting, guessing, or damaging the object should be revised while the maker still has time. Clean removal is part of clean rigging.
